Comparison of approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of arterial hypertension in different countries

Approaches to diagnosis and target blood pressure (BP) levels in patients with arterial hypertension (AH) in Ukraine, Europe, and the USA have their own characteristics, the key of which are the criteria for diagnosis and target BP values. When managing patients with elevated BP, it is necessary to be guided by risk factors. In Europe and Ukraine, the SCORE2 scale should be used to assess the 10-year risk of fatal and non-fatal сardiovascular complications in people aged 40–69 years, and SCORE2-OR should be used in people aged 70 years and older. American experts have introduced a new risk assessment scale — PREVENT. First-line drugs for the treatment of AH remain angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or sartans, to which either calcium antagonists or diuretics are added. Beta-blockers have been removed from first-line drugs for the treatment of hypertension. All hypertension guidelines recommend giving preference to a fixed combination, as it allows you to achieve blood pressure targets faster and more effectively.
