Cough in children is a leading symptom of respiratory tract infections and inflammatory diseases. Given the age-related anatomical and physiological characteristics of the respiratory system, selecting a safe and effective therapy is particularly important. Herbal medicines demonstrate a multifaceted mechanism of action, including secretomotor, mucolytic, anti-inflammatory, bronchodilatory, and immunomodulatory effects. This article provides a detailed overview of the pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic characteristics of the medicinal plants Althaea officinalis L., Hedera helix L., Thymus vulgaris L., Glycyrrhiza glabra L., Plantago major L., and Primula veris L., and analyses their clinical rationale in different types of cough in children.
