The article discusses the therapeutic efficacy, clinical use and possible side effects of nimesulide, a member of the group of selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. A review of the literature on the safety profile of nimesulide has been made. Attention is paid to molecular mechanisms that increase the risk of hepatotoxicity of the drug. Ways to overcome the undesirable effects of nimesulide on hepatocytes are discussed.
