Resume

The course of most diseases of the central nervous system may be accompanied by conditions requiring emergency intervention. Such situations arise in cases of acute cerebrovascular accidents, inflammatory processes, neoplasms, traumatic brain injury, venous sinus thrombosis, epileptic seizures, metabolic encephalopathies (hepatic, uremic, diabetic), crises associated with myasthenia gravis, Parkinson’s disease, acute paraparesis and tetraparesis (particularly in Guillain — Barré syndrome), as well as tetanus. The purpose of this publication is to highlight current approaches to the diagnosis, emergency care, and treatment of the most common emergency conditions in neurological practice.
