View of the problem of organizing the management of elderly patients with gastroduodenal bleeding in the practice of a surgeon and a family doctor

Gastroduodenal bleeding is a serious complication of gastrointestinal diseases, especially among elderly patients. Methods of local endoscopic hemostasis reduce the proportion of surgical interventions performed at the height of bleeding, but there is no single universal method. Therefore, despite progress in the treatment of such patients, the overall mortali­ty rate for ulcer bleeding is 10–15%, and the mortality rate for surgical interventions at the height of bleeding is 20–40%. The main cause of mortality in the category of elderly patients is the recurrence of bleeding itself, in which there is a maladaptation of vital body systems. Given the high risk of mortali­ty and complications, effective interdisciplinary interaction between the surgeon and the family doctor is crucial for ensuring timely diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of such patients. The article reviews modern approaches to organizing the mana­gement of this category of patients.
