The impact of aggressive factors (mechanical, chemical, thermal, electrical, etc.) causes skin damage and, in most cases, results in defects of varying depth and size.
Objective of the study: to determine the indications for one-stage reconstruction of dorsal nasal skin defects.
Materials and methods. For five years, six patients with mechanical nasal injuries were treated at the Yuriy Lypa Lviv Regional Hospital for War Veterans. Wound revision was performed in the dressing room. The skin defects affected the lower dorsum and nasal tip in 2 cases (33.3%), the middle dorsum and right nasal ala in 3 cases (50.0%), and the upper third of the dorsum in one case. In the latter case (defect of the upper third of the nose), a decision was made to perform a one-stage surgical procedure using a forehead flap transposition with triangle excision (Barrow technique).
Results. In the absence of bone-cartilage injuries and when the skin defect in the upper third of the nasal dorsum did not exceed the interbrow distance in width, a one-stage surgical intervention was performed: a forehead flap transposition with triangle excision (Barrow technique). Sutures were removed seven days postoperatively. The wounds healed by primary intention, achieving the desired aesthetic outcome.
Conclusion. Soft tissue defects of the nasal dorsum can be reconstructed in a one-stage procedure using the Barrow technique, provided that the defect is located in the upper third of the dorsum and does not exceed the interbrow distance in width.
