In light of the updated recommendations of the European Association of Urology (EAU) 2025, significant attention has been paid to improving the classification of urinary tract infections (UTIs), as well as finding alternatives to traditional antibiotic therapy in the context of increasing antibiotic resistance. The new approach to the classification of UTIs, based on the distinction between localized and systemic infections, allows for a more accurate determination of the severity of the disease and the selection of appropriate treatment tactics. Non-antibacterial therapy for cystitis occupies a special place in the recommendations. A systematic review of the literature conducted in 2024 confirmed the effectiveness of herbal remedies both in the acute phase and in the prevention of relapses. The data obtained were included in the new section 3.4.4.1 of the EAU guidelines and summarized in the summary of evidence in subsection 3.4.4.1.4. This emphasizes the relevance of the use of herbal medicines as part of a personalized approach to the treatment of cystitis, aimed at reducing the use of antibiotics and combating the spread of resistant bacterial strains.
