In our turbulent times, the time of Russia’s large-scale attack on Ukraine, industrial accidents, earthquakes, road accidents, there are isolated or combined mechanical injuries with compression of the soft tissues of the body (most often the limb). After the limb is released (the exposure lasts several hours), blood flow and lymph flow in the injured tissues can be restored, but this is accompanied by a significant deterioration in the victim’s health, sometimes with a fatal outcome. This is due to traumatic toxemia — poisoning by toxic products from crushed muscles. Rescuers and emergency medical professionals should know the etiology, pathogenesis, clinic of crush syndrome, the timing of first aid and medical care, and methods of transporting victims to medical facilities.
