Electrophysiological characteristics of cerebrospinal fluid in certain pathological conditions

15–30% of cerebrospinal fluid is synthesized in the brain parenchyma, which is characterized by electrogenesis, and the cerebrospinal fluid has electrolytic properties that allow it to accumulate charge and transport it through the cerebrospinal fluid spaces, including perineural. When measuring the voltage of cerebrospinal fluid in patients with various pathological conditions (brain tumor, hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes, viral encephalitis), different indicators were observed, with the value in the case of brain tumor being 40% lower than that of hemorrhagic stroke, indicating that cerebrospinal fluid possesses electrophysiological properties, can carry charge, and may significantly decrease in certain pathological conditions (brain tumor).
