Analysis of postoperative purulent-septic complications in women with purulent-inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs in terms of emergency gynecological care

The aim of the study was to analyze postoperative purulent-septic complications in women with purulent-inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs in the conditions of urgent gynecological care. Object and research methods. The analysis of cases of postoperative purulent-septic complications in 52 patients who underwent urgent surgical treatment for purulent-inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs was performed. Results. The average age of patients was 36.7±1.4 years. Postoperative purulent-septic complications were observed in 36.5% and most often occurred in patients undergoing treatment for pelvic abscess and septic community-acquired abortion. The occurrence of purulent-septic complications in these women was 100% (relative risk (RR) 2.2; p=0.03). A relationship was found between the severity of the patient’s condition and the frequency of development of postoperative purulent-septic complications. So, in patients undergoing community-acquired septic abortion, the average number of leukocytes was 22.0±3.0 • 109/l (RR 3.3; p<0.05). Of the 19 patients who had postoperative purulent-septic complications, 14 (73.7%) had a history of artificial abortion (RR 1.36). According to the results of intraoperative bacteriological research, it turned out that the bacterial flora was detected in only 59.6%, and was mainly represented by Staphylococcus and Esсherichia coli. Findings. The percentage of postoperative purulent-septic complications among patients with purulent-inflammatory diseases of the pelvic organs was 36.5%. The frequency of purulent-septic complications depends on the severity of the patient’s condition and signs of general intoxication. The presence in a woman’s history of artificial abortions increases the risks of a purulent-inflammatory process. The study of the occurrence of postoperative purulent-septic complications requires further analysis on an extended sample.
