Resume

The urgency of stroke is associated with high prevalence, complexity of treatment and severe consequences of the disease. A pragmatic
observation was performed from June 1 to December 31, 2016 to study the state of medical care in patients with stroke in the city of Kyiv.
Material and methods. 1.575 patients in acute period of stroke were examined.
The further analysis included data of 1542 patients (42.6% of men) aged 26–100 years (average age 70.5±10.7 years) who were
hospitalized from June 1 to December 31, 2016 to neurological departments in the city of Kyiv. Results. In 71.5% of the examined patients, stroke
occurred for the first time in their life. Patients aged ≥60 years were dominated (84.1%). Ischemic stroke was diagnosed in 1238 (86.1%),
haemorrhagic — in 121 (7.8%), mixed stroke or haemorrhagic transformation of the cerebral infarction area — in 36 (2.3%), stroke of unspecified
nature — in 57 (3.7%) patients. The most important factor of vascular risk was arterial hypertension, which was observed in 1465 (95%) patients.
Conclusions. In order to improve the quality of care for patients with stroke, more attention should be paid to preventive measures against primary
pathologies of the cardiovascular system and educational work among the population. In Ukraine, there is an urgent problem to create a modern
stroke service (registry of patients).
