The role of stations in contemporary treatment strategy of cardiovascular diseases: focus on atorvastatin

The review is devoted to a discussion of the role of statins
in the combined therapy of cardiovascular diseases. The several approaches
toward different strategies of lipid lowering therapy are
considered. The data of prospective randomized clinical trials regarding
the role and advantage of statins in contemporary treatment of
cardiovascular disease are reported. It is discussed the therapeutic
efficacy and safety of lipid lowering strategies based on atorvastatin
use in patients with established cardiovascular diseases with some
co-morbidities, i.e. diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, chronic
kidney disease.
