Increasing the effectiveness of treatment of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza through the combined use of antiviral drugs

Respiratory viral infections remain one of the leading causes of morbidity in children, with a significant proportion of cases caused by co-infections that can complicate the course of the disease and limit the effectiveness of monoetiotropic therapy. The aim of the work was to ana­lyze modern literature data on the epidemiology of respiratory mixed infections in children, the possibilities of etiotropic therapy with oseltamivir and the potential role of the combined use of oseltamivir and Influcid. An analytical review of modern international and domestic publications devoted to the features of the course of respiratory viral infections, pharmacotherapy of influenza and the results of clinical studies of adjuvant therapy was conducted. Lite­rature analysis shows that oseltamivir remains the drug of choice for the etiotropic treatment of influenza, but does not affect other respiratory viruses, which are often part of mixed infections. Data from an international randomized clinical trial, review publications and individual clinical observations, including the results of Bulgarian colleagues, indicate the potential use of Influcid as a component of adjuvant therapy for acute respiratory viral infections, although the available evidence base remains limited and heterogeneous. The combination of the etiotropic effect of oseltamivir with the potential support of nonspecific defense mechanisms of the body has a pathogenetic basis and can be considered as a promising direction for further clinical research, however, the clinical benefits of such an approach need to be confirmed in large multicenter randomized trials.
